Myanmar's national park put on tentative list for world heritage nomination

YANGON, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's Natma Taung National Park, proposed by Myanmar for inclusion in UNESCO's World Heritage List, has been put on tentative list and is to be examined in coming years by the World Heritage Committee, official media reported Wednesday, quoting the UNESCO.

Natma Taung national park lying in Chin state's Kanpetlet township and being home to more than 800 plant species, including a rich variety of orchids and several endemic bird spices, is one of two high-priority sites identified out of the seven natural sites on Myanmar's tentative list.

The other five sites on the tentative list are the Northern Mountain Forest Complex containing snow-capped Mt. Hkakaborazi, Myeik Archipelago of 800 islands in the Andaman Sea, Hukaung Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, Tanintharyi Forest Corridor and Ayeyawaddy River Corridor.

Myanmar has been cooperating with the world in striving for preservation of its cultural heritage.

According to the UNESCO, Myanmar, a signatory to the World Heritage Convention since 1994, does not yet have any site inscribed in the list despite efforts in nomination of other three ancient Pyu city states -- Beikthano, Hanlin and Sri Kestra as well as Inwa to the world heritage list.
