Myanmar's community development project to cover Nay Pyi Taw area

YANGON, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's ongoing community-based project, supported by the World Bank, will add a township in the capital city area of Nay Pyi Taw to be covered by the project, state media reported Wednesday.

The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development and the World Bank which has distributed 80 million U.S. dollars to Myanmar's rural development and poverty reduction measures, said the New Light of Myanmar.

According to the ministry, rural development projects are being carried out in 13 villages in the capital city, while plans are underway to launch the community-based projects in 3,000 more villages in cooperation with the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and Italian Development Cooperation Groups.

In the fiscal year 2012-13, the community-based project was conducted in Namhsam township of northern Shan state, Kanpetlet township of Chin state and Kyunsu township in Tanintharyi region, while in 2014-15, the project will extend to cover those in Sagaing, Magway, Ayeyawaddy and Yangon regions and Rakhine state as well as the Nay Pyi Taw council area for three consecutive years.
