Telenor Myanmar invites distribution partners and franchisees

YANGON—Telenor Myanmar announced yesterday that it has launched a partner programme in preparation for the rapid rollout of a modern telecommunications network in Myanmar.

The programme will create new business opportunities for local businesses and entrepreneurs looking to become authorized distributors and franchisees of Telenor’s products and services for customers in Myanmar.

The Norway-based telecommunications service provider is currently in the post-tender negotiation process to obtain one of the two nationwide telecom licences in the Southeast Asian country.

The company has planned to open 100,000 retail outlets in the country within five years of receiving the licence.

“We will give priority to local businessmen in selecting the retailers. Anyone who is interested in becoming our retail and distribution partners can find the application form on our website. We can also be reached by e-mail. We will advertise in the newspaper within one week,” Sharad Mehotra, chief marketing officer of Telenor Myanmar, said during a ceremony held at Traders Hotel yesterday.

“We want to work with local entrepreneurs who are dynamic and passionate about what we do and who want to play a role in the development of state-of-the-art telecom infrastructure for Myanmar,” he said.

The company will conduct training programmes for its retailers and distributors. This will ensure that Telenor can effectively serve its users with SIM cards, top-up cards and other services that will be available everywhere in Myanmar.

Telenor expects to be awarded a telecom licence by the end of this year. It aims to begin its network rollout within eight months of signing the licence agreement with the Myanmar government.

The Telenor Group is one of the world’s major mobile operators, with presence in 11 markets including the Nordic region, Central and Eastern Europe, and Asia.
