Tiger Airways to launch Yangon-Singapore flights

Singapore-based Tiger Airways, a regional economy airline, is set to launch daily flights between Yangon and Singapore starting October 1, according to officials.

“Tiger Airways has planned to fly Yangon-Singapore starting from October 1,” said Win Ko, General Manager of Yangon International Airport, on August 10.

Tiger Airways will become the third Singaporean airline, next to Silk Air and Singaporean Airline, calling direct flights to Myanmar.

Next month, Thailand’s Nok Air and Business Air are launching Yangon-Bangkok flights.

There are currently a total of 22 international airlines and 7 domestic ones in Myanmar.

In fact, there were only 15 international airlines before the peak season of 2012: seven more came in within a year. They launched direct flights from Myanmar to Japan, Qatar, Taiwan, Korea, Germany and Singapore.

According to the Department of Civil Avation, direct flights are prioritized for day-time landing while existing airlines will be considered night-time landing if they will increase the frequency of their flights.
