NEC Corporation is bringing its expertise in information and communications technology as well as social infrastructure to Myanmar with the opening of offices in Yangon in February and in Nay Pyi Taw.
"There is tremendous growth potential in
Myanmar and this is an opportune moment for NEC to contribute to the
country's IT needs," Takayuki Morita, a senior vice president of the
Japanese company, said yesterday.
"NEC will focus on providing key
international communications networks, such as submarine cable systems,
ICT infrastructure for industrial parks, disaster-prevention systems,
security systems, e-government systems and mass-market IT solutions," he
said.
The leading provider of
information-technology and network solutions and systems integrator has
more than 35 years of experience with Myanmar's communications
infrastructure, including telephone switchboards, wireless equipment,
satellite ground stations and broadcasting systems.
On May 14, Sumitomo Corp and NEC, in
cooperation with NTT Communica-tions Corp, signed an agreement with
Myanmar's Communications and Infor-mation Technology Ministry to support
the country's project for urgent improvement of communications TETworks
(test environment toolkits). This plan includes a high-speed,
high-capacity core optical transmission network capable of transmitting
30 gigabits per second among the cities of Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi
Daw, as well as LTE communications to provide coverage among sites of
the SEA Games.
The systems are expected to be completed by November, followed by technical training and operating assistance.
NEC's Myanmar offices will be headed by
Yasushi Teranishi of the global business unit in the Greater China and
Asia-Pacific division.
