Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe have attended the Myanmar-Japan Economic Forum held at the headquarters of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, also known as UMFCCI, in Yangon this afternoon.
The forum was attended by a delegation
of 150 Japanese business leaders led by Mr Abe. They discussed possible
business investments in Myanmar's communications and transport sectors
as well as development of Thilawa Special Economic Zone.
The delegation includes chairmen from
major Japanese companies such as Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Sumitomo, Toyota
Tsusho, Toshiba, Daiwa, and Sompo.
The main topics of conversation at the
forum were about Myanmar's communications, transport, airport,
industrial, power, insurance and water projects. Another main topic was
the development of Thilawa Special Economic Zone.
Mr. Kengo Sakurada, the chairman of
Sompo Japan Insurance Inc discussed possible investments in insurance
business. Mr. Kuniharu Nakamura, President & CEO of Sumitomo
Corporation discussed possible investments in communications. Mr. Ken
Kobayashi, President & CEO of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd
discussed transport and urban environmental conservation topic.
Mr. Junzo Shimizu, the chairman of
Toyota Tsusho Corporation discussed possible investments in airports and
ports. Mr. Ken Kobayashi again discussed the development of Thilawa
Special Economic Zone, at the forum.
The prime minister gave his view on Myanmar's economy at the forum.
Japanese investments in Myanmar only
reached over US$270 by the end of April this year and investments for
the Thilawa are under preparation now.
