CASBBA holds forum in Singapore

The Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Association for Asia- CASBBA held a forum in Singapore on February 27.

The CASBBA aimed to find out investment ways in Myanmar because there were many TV channels required in the country compare with its populations.


Over 100 delegates, speakers and guests including Director General of Myanmar Radio and Television Tint Swe attended ‘the Myanmar In View forum.’

The CASBAA members provided a platform for industry experts to share their experiences and insights to help businesses break into this burgeoning economy.

“The people are desirous of Myanmar and its market information from this forum and interested in doing business in Myanmar” CEO Mr. Christopher Slaughter from CASBBA said.

Tint Swe said “I think, media businesses will boom and become systematic within next five years.”

“Besides, Myanmar lacks of human resources and doesn’t have reliable electricity. Myanmar needs investments, technology, training and education programs to help media,” he said.

Emerging from years of international isolation, Myanmar is undergoing significant political and economic change and has started to adopt market-friendly policies. Home to 55.6 million people and 11.1 million households, Myanmar’s pay-TV industry is still in its infancy and has 375,000 active pay-TV subscribers, representing a household penetration rate of only 3.4%, according to the CASBBA.
