Ayeyarwady Bridge (Yatanarpon)to reportedly be leased out to private company

Ayeyarwady Bridge (Yatanarpon), under the supervision of the Public Works , will reportedly be transferred to Shwe Taung Company with the annual lease of 8 billion kyats, according to resources from the Public Works.


Ayeyarwady Bridge is connected to Mandalay Region, Sagaing Region and Chin State by way of the Ayeyarwady River.

“Ayeyarwady Bridge has income average between 3.1 million and 3.5 million kyats per day. It has over 100 million kyats per month and over 1.2 billion kyats per annual. Now we heard that Shwe Taung Development Company got the tender and the lease has the value of 880 million kyats per annual. If so, 400 million kyats will reduce from annual state budget,” a source which has connection from the Public Works Enterprise said.

“Shwe Taung has succeeded the tender to do build-operate-transfer system for using roads and bridges in Sagaing regions. The company requested to transfer the using of Ayeyawady Bridge from under the Public Works Enterprise. The bridge is connected to Mandalay and Sagaing Regions. Now the news came out that Shew Taung have the lease without calling tender. If the value of the lease is true, it is out of the direction,” he commented.
