Marrybrown expands in Myanmar

Local fast food franchise Marrybrown Sdn Bhd plans to open 20 restaurants in Myanmar in the next five years.

Group managing director Nancy Liew said an agreement has been signed with a local company that has been appointed as a master franchisee in Myanmar.

"We are the first international fast food company to operate in Myanmar. We see high demand for our products there and we expect our operations there to run smoothly," she told reporters at the draw for contest winners at its headquarters here today.

She said Marrybrown and its partner in Myanmar will open their first restaurant in Yangon, with a 6,000 sq ft (557.4 sq. m.) floor space, in the near future.

Marrybrown already has restaurants in China, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives and the Middle East, and Myanmar is the 16th country with Marrybrown operations.

"The demand is there (in Myanmar), there is yet no international fast food restaurant there. They are opening up now, they are hungry for a trendy, fast and value-for-money fast food restaurant, a place for the whole family," she said.

Asked on local operations, she said last year the company, which was established in Johor Baharu 31 years ago, opened 30 restaurants and this year will open 20 more nationwide, including in Sabah and Sarawak.
